Redbox to acquire NCR Blockbuster Express kiosks
Redbox Automated Retail, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coinstar, has agreed to purchase Blockbuster Express kiosks and related assets from NCR for $100m.
The acquisition includes the purchase of the DVD kiosks, certain retailer contracts and DVD inventory of NCR's entertainment line of business.
Coinstar and NCR will also enter into a strategic supplier arrangement that allow Coinstar to purchase product and services from NCR.
CSNews reported Blockbuster Express as saying that until the sale is completed, the firm will continue to run the business.
Redbox has more than 28,000 locations across the US. Redbox's video rental store typically occupy 12ft² of retail space.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2012.
